Make Your “Voice” Heard

The way to defeat the Article II proposal is through a one-third + one “nay” vote of the delegates present at virtual UUA General Assembly, June 20-23, 2024.

YOU can become a Virtual Delegate!

How do I become a delegate?
Congregations have different ways to select their delegates, but the first thing you must do is let your Board of Trustees know that you would like to serve.  At some congregations members may request the Board to send them; at others, nominated delegates are voted on.

If you are named a delegate, you will receive a link in April that you will use to register for General Assembly and confirm your credentials in order to vote.

The 2024 General Assembly, to take place June 20-23, is virtual only, which means you can participate conveniently from your home.  There is no cost to be a business only delegate; there is a cost for full access to workshops and the WHOVA discussion app.

How do I participate once I’m a delegate?
You will receive complete instructions from UUA once you’re registered. Business only delegates may attend business sessions, live, on-line. Voting takes place on-line after the close of each business session.

Am I free to vote as I choose?
Some congregations hold meetings or discussions to determine the will of the entire congregation, and they instruct their delegates to vote accordingly.  In other congregations the delegates each vote their conscience.

Can all congregations send delegates?
Only certified congregations can send delegates. Annual certification is now open, and must be completed by Feb 5 at 11:59 pm HST. To certify, your congregation must fill out the UUA’s certification worksheet which requires a login with your congregation number and password. The link to this worksheet’s login page was sent to all congregations just after January 1, 2024.

Is my congregation certified to send delegates to GA 2024?
You can check here (https://dyn.uua.org/congregation/certlist.php) to see if your congregation is certified to send delegates to GA 2024. And you would want ask your congregation’s leadership if they intend to certify, if you do not see your congregation certified by the end of January.

How many Delegates can my congregation send to GA 2024?
Every congregation is guaranteed at least 2 delegates. An additional delegate is apportioned for every 50 members over 100. For instance, 1-100 members get 2 delegates, a total of 101-150 members gets 3 delegates, 151-200 members gets 4 delegates, etc

Will my vote make a difference?
Yes! It takes only one-third, plus one, of the delegates to stop the (amended) Article II proposal.

What about amendments to the proposal?
Any proposed amendment must have the support of 15 certified congregations by action of their governing board or congregation, using identical wording, with supporting documentation turned in the the UUA by February 1, 2024. Then the amendment requires 3/4 majority approval to incorporated into the final proposed revision.

We believe the proposal is fatally flawed, and we’ve seen no amendment proposed that makes it acceptable. Given the constraints on the process, it will be far better to defeat the proposal and start over, with a new process that begins at congregational level.
